Too Early To Tell

POEM/SONG
Too Early To Tell
by Juanita D. Holley
1998

Some say she’s gone to heaven
Some say she’s gone to hell
Some say she was a miracle
I say it’s too early to tell
To her it don’t really matter
She said ..either way
But we may never know the truth
Cause only she could say

You see, no one told her what to take or give
And no one told her what was fake or real
But losing the best part of herself
Was never part of the deal
Now all the love she gets is free
But now love she can’t feel

In the middle of her longest dance
She lost the rythym of her song
Now even though she smiles at you
In her eyes you can see she’s gone

Some say she’s gone to heaven
Some say she’s gone to hell
Some say she was a miracle
I say it’s too early to tell
Some say she was a miracle
I say it’s too early to tell

Broken Hallelujah

"Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen
(adapted for this blog)

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I know that I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah,Hallelujah, Hallelujah
